A journey of service
to
families in Kenya
- one by one |

|
Inspired by a
1997 trip to Bangladesh, 2:14 Ministries was conceived by its
founder, Doug Coulbert, with a desire to work with the poor from other
countries. It was
launched in Seattle, Washington, USA, as a means to consolidate and focus a number
of family-based volunteer ministries serving the poor and individuals from different
nationalities and cultures.
2:14
Ministries began with Hailu, an Ethiopian immigrant in Seattle.
What started as lessons in English soon became a good |

The mission of 2:14 Ministries
is:
 |
to improve the lives of
the poor,
|
 |
one individual
or family at a time,
|
 |
through a personal
relationship of service and love, and
|
 |
by sharing
the resources which God has put under our control. |

friendship.
It was this friendship which inspired a 1999 trip to East Africa, eventually giving rise to our Kenyan micro programs. Called Moja
Moja (one by one), our Kenyan projects concentrate on the specific needs of
individuals or families, serving them "moja moja," through personal
relationships.
2:14 Ministries takes its name from James
2:14. |

What's the use of
saying you have faith and are Christians if you aren't proving it
by helping others?
(paraphrase: The Living Bible)
|
The entire passage of James 2:14-17 reads:
|
 |
What good is it, my
brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose
a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him,
"Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his
physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not
accompanied by action, is dead. (NIV)

2:14 Ministries
is a Christ-based ministry, meaning we believe Christ has provided us with
whatever we have to offer in service to Him and to others: our inspiration
and faith, our strength, our resources and, most importantly, our love. We
believe that we can best share our faith with others by first showing them
that we care about their needs. Our motto, Growing in faith by
learning to serve, reinforces our belief that we are gaining more
from our journey of service than we will ever manage to give. |

2:14 Ministries, including Moja
Moja, is organized, managed and funded in part
by the extended Coulbert family.
In addition, we thank our
partners who funded the vocational
training expenses of the five mothers in
Moja Moja's
Young Mothers
Program and our sponsors of the three young boys in
pre-school programs.
Thanks also goes to the mother-daughter team that funded the roof of
our
2nd house building
project, and to
those individuals and organizations which assisted us with
Moja Moja's
2003 shoe drive,
